Suggestion

Akai Professional MPD218 is a MIDI over USB pad controller suitable for producers, programmers, musicians and DJ. Stewmac.com has 3/8 black cloth pickup coil tape Stewmac.com has 3/8 black cloth pickup coil tape. I use it for guitar work, so I had something on hand, but it just so happens that it is the perfect width for this work. I also recommend double stick tape, Also available on Stumac, and is used under black cloth tape. This ensures good adhesion to your rubber MPC pads. Black cloth tape looks more compatible than traditional electrical tape and is easier to work with. Just cut it into one inch strips and level the bottom with double stick tape as needed. I am using 2 strips for most pads.

Add more and see if you like the feeling. Adjust accordingly. I have found that setting up these is a balanced task. Every single screw makes a difference in how it is not installed and how tightly it is installed, both on the circuit board and the red shell cover that fits on the device. For tapes: More tape can actually reduce velocity range sensitivity, which can be a good thing. Hyper active pads that are triggering much faster than others may benefit from extra tape no less. The law of equations. Currently I am not using any screws on the circuit board.

Recommendation

On the hard red plastic cover, I’m just using 4 outer screws and loosening them a bit about 1/4 turn. This seems to be enough to keep everything in place and gives a very sensitive response with minimal accidental triggering. I carefully separated the MPD218 and cut the electrical tape to fit on the pad. This is a well known strategy online, and the simple idea is it reduces the power you need to hit the pads to trigger and especially to trigger completely. You can customize it if you want. I am using two layers of tape. You may like more. You may choose less. Now I am enjoying my new set up MPD218 much more than before.

Very very light touches seem to trigger nothing before, where now they trigger exactly What they want is a very light, soft sound. Only be careful with screws and circuit boards when disassembling and reassembling this item, and you’ll be fine. This is a very simple solution. It takes a little time to dial it perfectly. Overall I am very happy with this unit. It was good looking, very easy to work with and with a few tweaks, it is performing extremely well. I think Akai Professional’s MPD218 is a MIDI-over-USB pad controller best for you. You can use it.
